The Beddow Montessori School, located in Fort Washington, MD, is a private, non-sectarian school for children from 2 1/2 years of age through age 12 whose philosophy is based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. The school meets County and State requirements for a private Montessori school, holds a Certificate of Approval from the Maryland State Board of Education, and is approved by the Montessori Schools of Maryland.
Our programs are defined by the practical application of hands-on, sensory-based, and self-directed learning using the authentic Montessori Method. The Montessori Method allows each child’s unique learning style and natural curiosity to be supported in a warm, collaborative environment. Our Primary and Elementary classes are non-graded and meet five days a week.
The curriculums for the Primary and Elementary classes emphasize a phonetic approach in language development, and a concrete approach in mathematics, social studies and science. The half-day Primary class is for students aged 5 and under, from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM. School hours for the full-day Primary and Elementary classes are from 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM. Extended day care is available from 7:00 - 8:30 AM and 3:00 - 6:00 PM for an additional monthly fee.
